Auto backup saving as .odt.bak which Libre Writer can't read!

When setting up automatic backups in version 24.2.5.2 and save to original file location, the backup file is saved as an .odt.bak file. Libre Office can’t read that type of file! This must be a programing glitch!

Also, default path for automatic backups does not exist!

LibreOffice can read the file (usually). But Windows does not know wich program to call for .bak-files. One may create a bak-open-Tool to rename to the second extension and open this…

Maybe your file manager software not show some hidden (system) directories.

Apparently, I had to tell Win 10 to use C:\ProgramFiles\LibreOffice\Program\swriter.exe before it knew what program should open either .bak or .odt.bak files. Writer can then open either type of file.

Writer can open the files anyway. menu:File>Open… opens the file.
Microsoft Windows is too stupid to detect file types by their characteristics. It distinguishes file types by reading the name extensions and look up some program from a list mapping programs to extensions.
