Auto correct fraction does not apply the new fraction. I am using Arial font which supports Open type fonts. I have followed the instructions to replace the fraction. However, NEW button stays grayed out.

AutoCorrect while typing:

Lets say you want 22/7 ,
- type out the fraction, make the 22 superscript and the 7 subscript.
- Select the fraction
1.Click Tools > AutoCorrect > AutoCorrect Options > Replace, you will see that 22/7 is already entered in the With field, don’t touch that but enter your shortcut in the Replace field, 22/7 - Click New. OK.
If the fraction you want is created in Math then you will have to use AutoText instead
- Create your equation
- Select the equation by clicking at the beginning and shift click at the end to highlight the equation. You should not see the handles.
- Click Tools > AutoText
- In the dialogue select My AutoText then enter a name, e.g. Lagrange Equation, the Shortcut will automatically fill in the initials LE but you can change that.
- Click AutoText and select New. OK out
You can enter your fraction by typing LE then pressing F3 (maybe Fn+F3 depending on laptop settings)
Your explanation is correct. However, it has nothing to do with Auto Correct in Writer. I am not creating an equation. I simply want to auto correct the 1/3 fraction. All the basic fractions do auto correct. Such as 1/4, 1/2. 3/4. I have followed the instruction to the letter. But the correction does not work because the NEW button stays grayed out. Editional information I just found. The NEW button stays grayed out with any fraction that has a 3, or a 8 for the denominator of a fraction. At least on my current version of LO.
The New button is greyed out because the AutoCorrect entry is already in there as shown in your screenshot. Therefore, check that the language of your AutoCorrect entry matches that of your document language.
[Edit]
First check that your Locale is correctly set:
- Click Tools > Options > Languages and Locales >General and set your Locale.
- On the same page set the Default Language for Western documents. OK.
Now check that AutoCorrect language matches the Default Language that you just set.
That is not right because the fraction does not auto correct as it is typed. The only fractions that do auto correct are 1/4, 1/2, 3/4. I did check Locale everything there is correct.
Did you type :1/3: ? Because that is what is shown in your AutoCorrect replace table.
If you want to type 1/3 and get the superscript/subscript version then you need to follow the instruction I gave earlier for 22/7
I did type 1/3 because there is no superscript/ subscript fraction. Or it would have auto corrected. I simply clicked on what was offered in the Replace field. I did however find I work around the missing fraction. It involves Superscript / Subscript. Takes 3 keystrokes instead of Auto Correct. I am not sure but I did discover that there are no ascii codes for 1/3, 2/3, 1/8, 3/8, 5/8, 7/8. Not sure if ascii codes has anything to do with fractions in writer.
Why not add the superscript/subscript to Autocorrect in exactly the same way as I described earlier except for 22/7?
For some unknown reason when I select 1/3 in Replace the superscript / subscript 1/3 in Wth column. The New button stays grayed out. Even though it is highlighted as your example shows. My version of writer will not allow me to type 1/3 using superscript / subscript in the With column. Nor can I highlight it copy and paste to the With column and choose New. New stays grayed out.
The suggestion is to create a new entry by modifying another entry:

I got 1/3, and 2/3 to superscript / subscript. Now the 1/8, 3/8, 5/8, 7/8 are giving me the same problem. I tried the same steps to create the 1/8, 3/8, 5/8, 7/8 as you suggested for the 1/3 fraction. Sofar nothing is happening. So I am happy to get the 1/3, 2/3 added to auto correct. thank you.
