Auto Correct whole words, not part of a word

Hello;

I have a simple question that I have so far failed to figure out the answer to.

For the Auto correct options, how do set it up so that it only replaces a whole word, not part of a word?

I want to do this:

earth => Earth

but NOT this:

earthly => Earthly

And I seem to be unable to coax Writer into doing so. Is this not possible, or do I need more coffee? :grinning:

If needed, these are the versions involved:

  • Libre Office: 7.6.4.1 (x86_64)
  • Windows 11: Version 10.0.22621 Build 22621

TIA;
Ken

How did you configure it? I checked with factory replacement rules, e.g. eacch → each works but eacchother fails. Working with partial words requires a special syntax for the Replace strings, namely using the wildcard .*.

This where I both apologize and get more coffee!

It works perfectly, provided you are not starting a new paragraph when testing it. In which case it will capitalize any old word you type. So earth becomes Earth, and earthly become Earthly, and it appears the autocorrect entries you added are working on partial words. Then you figure it out and feel stupid. :laughing:

Thank you for your response. As soon as I read it, I realized what I did. My apologies, sincerely!

Ken

Capitalizing first word of sentence (first word of paragraph is only a case of this rule) is controlled by Tools>AutoCorrect>AutoCorrect Options, Options tab.

Don’t blush, we all make blunders. I first.
