Automate Impress slide changes using MIDI from a DAW?

Is automation in Impress using MIDI from a DAW even possible? I’m looking to build a lyric prompter and would need changes to take place at appropriate moments within songs.

Thanks!

If you have the MIDI file it’s no problem. I’ve enclosed an example, since people may land here searching for that. The trick is to put your music file in the first (and first only) slide transition Sound field (via Other sound…), perhaps as well as a sound file on the first slide for autoplay.

If you specifically mean triggering from a DAW, I’d be looking for software that can convert MIDI to general triggers, maybe like MIDI to Send Keys?? If Impress can do this directly, I’d also love to know.

For Linux, I just did a quick search on MIDI-to-keystroke and see this as an example: ubuntu - Translating MIDI input into computer keystrokes on Linux? - Super User I’m just linking it to clarify what I mean.

Please post more information about your operating system and your DAW so people really good with MIDI will have a head-start on what you’re needing.

For a MIDI file:

AutomatedMidiTransitions.odp (40.5 KB)

That’s my idea. I hope this garners some looks from people with more MIDI experience. A quick search shows this working with OBS Studio: https://midikey2key.de/

You might move your reply to me to Comments (even under your own question), rather than Answers, before you get evil looks from forum members.

Thanks!

I’m specifically looking to trigger slide changes for lyrics using MIDI within Cubase 9 on Win 10.

Yes, definitely wondering if Impress can do this, but if not, I guess I look for MIDI to keystrokes, and then to Impress?
