Automatically opening writer document on start up

Hello, I was wondering if there was a way to have libreoffice automatically open as a new document. I don’t use any of the other things it offers much. So, when I start it up, I would like it to just automatically open as a word processor document. I understand that the button is right there. All i have to do is click writer. Still, it would be nice to have the ability to choose libreoffice to start up as X. I am sure that many people only use it for spreadsheets. They too would probably like the ability to have it automatically start up with a new “X” type document. Maybe, it can’t and that is okay. Just wondering if it is possible to set libreoffice to “on start up” automatically open new “X” type of document.

Thank you

You didn’t mention your Operating System, but what you request is easy if you are using Ubuntu Linux. Just un-favourite the LibreOffice icon, then bring up your list of applications, open Writer and make it a favourite. Now the Writer application will open (instead of full LibreOffice) and you can have it open with a default (blank) document.

I don’t use Windows much, so can’t help there.

Even though people could use one component predominantly, it’s very rare that people really start a new document every time they start the program. Of course, you are free to configure your shortcuts as you like (pinning existing shortcuts, or creating new ones using command line parameters), but I always fail to see any logic in wanting empty documents instead of flexibility to choose from last open documents, templates, new documents, etc.

Well, except from cases when people don’t mind starting their file managers instead to navigate to their documents (and then the extra click they want to avoid when starting LibreOffice is funny, because they do much more clicks to navigate to recent documents), or even the very poor practice of putting documents on desktop.

As already mentioned: You didn’t mention your OS.
.
For Windows10 I added the Icon of Calc from StartMenu to the Taskbar. Right-click gives menue of recent files, left-click an empty sheet. I assume same is possible for writer.
.
Generally: Create a new empty file and save “as template” to your desktop or any easyto reach place. Then launch this instead of LibreOffice. A link to the default template may be a even better solution, depending on your needs. It is also usually possible to add Files to Taskbar/dock etc.
.
Other option may be to change the command to call LibreOffice and append “–writer”, but where to put this depends on your OS. See:
