I recently upgraded to version 25.2 on a Mac. Much to my surprise, all the backgrounds in Calc and Writer are black now - and I don’t know how to change them for good (not interested in changing them on each document individually). Would anybody know how to do this?
Since 7.5 LibreOffice follows your systems settings for dark mode, so I assume you use dark mode for the OS.
.
To modify this, see here:
Thanks, a lot! It worked.
Now - I’m not 100% sure about it, since I used version 24.8 before, and I didn’t have the issue even though the viewing mode was on “system” as well. Plus, on my Mac and maybe with the more recent versions, the options to change the mode have a rather different name and location, but whatever, at the end it worked. Thanks.
This is a video for Windows users, not macOS users. This feature is not there, just themes. All still display black cells.
Same here. I’ve updated to 25.2.1.2 on Mac OS 15.3.2, and for the first time the program display is in dark mode. I do have dark mode turned on for my Mac overall, but not for Libre Office. Maybe the "mirroring your device settings since 7.5 was for Windows users, and has just started for Mac. In Mac, the Libre Office “Tools” menu has no “Options” option. Strangely, there is nothing related to light mode or forcing light mode under the View menu. Problematic temporary solution for Mac: go to Libre Office > Preferences > Appearance > and choose light mode, then Apply, then OK. This will change the background of your work to light mode, but also changes all text in the preferences window to white-on-white. The white text cannot be highlighted by scrolling a mouse over it, so although I can view my work now, I can never make any further adjustments in the Preferences window… unless I uninstall and reinstall I suppose. Would LOVE to have a solution that actually works.
Update: Go into Mac settings > Appearance and choose Light or Auto mode rather than dark. Then switch back to Dark. For some reason this allows the Libre Office document / worksheet background to remain white, and also brings the text back to the Libre Office Preferences menu.
