I am using LibreOffice 26.8 on Windows 11 home, version 10.0.26200 Build 26200.
Calc crashes every single time I try to change data in a pivot table from “sum” to “count.” I very much want to migrate away from MS Office for work, but I have to be able to run pivot tables.
The existing pivot tables in my Excel sheet seem to work fine when opened in Calc, but I want to make sure Calc works on its own before I make the switch.
I started a new document and typed in a column of colors (red, yellow, blue, green) in a random order for 30 rows. I highlighted the entries and went to insert a pivot table. I drug the column header “colors” into the “rows” box and the “data field” box. I hit okay, and the pivot table opened in a new sheet. The list was there and the data column was blank, which was to be expected since the default data setting seems to be sum and there were no numbers to sum. I right-clicked to select properties so I could change it to “count” instead, and the second I clicked on “count” the document crashed. I tried it again after recovering the document, but selected the other count option. Still crashed.
This seems like such a basic thing that a spreadsheet program should be able to do. The fact that it isn’t working makes me question the stability
