Calc crashes when spell check ribbon icon clicked (Tabbed Compact UI)

Hi,

This is my first post here, so apologies if I get it wrong.

I am running Linux Mint 22.3, Cinnamon edition. I use the flatpak version of LibreOffice and use the Tabbed Compact UI.

When I click on the Review Tab, and then the Spelling icon, Calc immediately crashes.

This does not happen in the Standard or Tabbed (non-Compact) interfaces. Nor does it happen when I activate spelling by pressing F7.

Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening?

Thanks,

Steve

I’d suggest to file a bug:

The only thing you can do is working around this bug, or checking if there are other conditions in play. (As in check, if a regular install has the same problem, or if this is desktop/gnome/kde/wayland-related.)

It is also a good idea when asking here to give precise details of your LO version; you can get this form menu Help → About LibreOffice, then click on the copy icon right of Version Information to copy the details. You should also include that information in your bug report.

Once you have submitted your report, please post the bug number here in the format tdf#nnnnnn where nnnnnn is the bug number; this will automatically create a link to the report.

Thanks. I raised a bug report 5 days ago here: Crash: Unspecified Application Error on Spelling dialog in "Tabbed Compact" UI (Calc) · Issue #370 · flathub/org.libreoffice.LibreOffice · GitHub

The only number given is #370, which seems like quite a small number. Still, here goes:

tdf#000370

That link didn’t work; no doubt I’m doing something wrong.

I can confirm that the bug has also been experienced by a member of the Linux Mint forum, who was kind enough to check it for me. It seems to affect only the Tabbed Compact and Groupedbar Compact UI options; the others are fine.

I’ve given all of the details of my system in the bug report (see previous link).

Ah well the tdf# thing is for bugs reported as per the link @Wanderer gave above, to the Document Foundation bug reporting site. It won’t of course work for [some other bug reporting site].

The link again is Bugzilla.

Thanks, but it seems I have to set up a new account etc. to join that site. Perhaps I’m just having a bad day, but I seem to be going around the houses with this one, and I’ve run out of steam. It’s a very obvious and basic bug - I’m not sure how it got past the testing process - but it is what it is. Sorry to have wasted your time.

You didn’t mention the latter in your bug report.

I am on Windows 11. The Groupedbar Compact works fine.
As regards the Tabbed Compact mode:

  • no crash with 25.8.6.2
  • crash as of 26.2.0.3

    recWin11_26222

I’m sorry I didn’t mention it. I didn’t know until after I had filed the bug report, when I played around some more. I won’t bother you guys again. Best wishes to you.
