I created a template in calc for my inventory. after I bring the template up and fill it out, I would like to go to the bottom left arrows (which are not highlighted) and click on the arrow and bring up a blank template.to fill out, I can’t do this. there is a plus sign, but if i click on it it will bring up a new spread sheet and not my template to be filled out.
You also need to save the template as a document template:

Then you can use the document template however you like:

Saving a document as a template
Open LibreOffice Calc.
Prepare the document for use as a template - i.e., enter all the text and data that are required and remain constant.
Save the document as a template.
Select File > Templates > Save as Template from the menu (Shift+F11).
In the “Save as Template” dialog, enter a name for the template and select the template category (e.g., “My Templates”).
Click Save.
Opening an OTS template for a new document
Start LibreOffice.
On the LibreOffice start screen, select File > New > Templates.
In the “Templates” dialog, under “Filter,” select “Spreadsheets” and the category (e.g., “My Templates”) where you saved the template.
Click on the template and then on the New from Template button.
The template opens as a new document, which you can now edit and save.

Copy your “template sheet” to create a second instance of it before you start to fill the first one.
This is doubtable advice, of course, because an inventory shouldn’t need a second instance in the same document.
What about using a database?
