Calc Not Saving Files In Excel

Calc is not saving files in Excel .xlsx format. The program shows “not responding” indefinitely and needs to be restarted. The files save fine in .ods format. None of the files are larger than 140 KB and are being saved to the desktop.

It will not save Excel files regardless if they are saved remotely or locally to my desktop.

Check your anti-virus help in case it is interfering.
Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features right click LibreOffice and Repair it. Or Uninstall, restart, and install LibreOffice again.

Always save to a proper folder, Windows has Documents as the intended location to save documents of all sorts.

I will check the anti-virus and reinstall LibreOffice.
I didn’t make myself clear on saving the files. I should have said desktop computer and not just “my desktop”.

I disabled the anti-virus and reinstalled LibreOffice but it did not resolve the issue.

Can you save files with the anti virus disabled?
Are you using Windows Security/Windows Defender or another anti virus?

Click Help > Restart in safe mode > Continue in Safe Mode. Can you save a sample xlsx file while you are in Safe mode?

I’m using Windows Defender. Disabling it still did not allow xlsx files to be saved.

It does not save xlsx in safe mode.

Windows Defender should be OK, the anti ransomware settings might prevent you from saving any files to Documents but it should tell you it has done that.

If a new version of LibreOffice with a temporary new profile cannot save an xlsx then I would suspect an issue with Windows , Windows Defender or a virus.
