Calc - Personal Icon Set for Dropdown Validation

Good evening guys & gals,

(beforehand, please excuse my bad english, but expected this to be the sub with the most knowledge)

Since two days I’m getting more and more desperate and now finally decided to register.

Due to a new job I had to start with spreadsheet editors 1,5 week ago & starting to realize why people are hyped and say things like “powerful tool”.

But today I faced a problem I can’t wrap my head around…

I’m trying make a dropdown (Data → Validity) with some personal .pngs I made.

Via Cell Range didn’t work. I thought it was because the pictures weren’t properly connected to the cell, 'cause when I deleted the cells with DEL the pictures were still there, but I guess reason is that my pictures are not part of the internal system, right?

I also wanted to swap the Arrows, Ratings etc.-symbols (Conditional - > Icon set) with my own symbols. This way I could’ve gone by using the value of a word in the dropdown which then gets replaced by one of my icons.

I also tried special characters, but… colour…

I ended up at =IFERROR VLOOKUP to replace a word in the dropdown with one of the pictures in another cell… and then my head exploded. :joy:

Am I even on the right path? :weary:

Seems like I’m in a loop. Hopefully someone can help me out over here.

TLDR: I’m trying Data → Validity → Show custom .png icons in dropdown menu

Kind regards,
A

Have you done this before in LibreOffice Calc? In Excel?
Can you post an example file using the upload arrow in this editor?
I know that Excel only recently got the ability to do VLOOKUP, etc., with pictures. It uses the separate IMAGE() function, and has several restrictions on its use.
You can put an image in a cell in Excel by Alt+clicking when you insert a rectangle shape then setting the rectangle fill to an image. But you cannot use that image in lookups.
