I have one column containing both debits and credits and want to split them so the debits are in one column and the credits in another. Is there an easy way to do this?

I’m assuming that the credits have a minus sign.
- Select the cells with debits and credits
- Choose menu
Data-Text to Columns… - Check Other
- Type the symbol for credits
OK
Tested with LibreOffice 7.0.6.2 (x86); OS: Windows 6.1.
