Calc: when converting text to number, Calc inserts a ' at the beginning of each number. How can I stop or eliminate this '

the single quote mark stops me from doing calculations with the number. I’m working with a spreadsheet with 1800 lines. I don’t want to manually remove each single quote mark.

How do you you convert text to number? It is not sufficient to just change the format of your cells, since this doesn’t change the text type property of existing data. A simple way to achieve a conversion is via Data - Text to columns - see my answer in Auto sum equals 0 or use method from FAQ
