Can the free app Grammarly be added to LibreWriter
No! Sadly they will not develop something for LO in the coming time.
Although it is not a question for LO (you should ask Grammarly) which I did, that’s why I can answer to your question.
So I have directly asked them on their website (I’m a premium member), and it was not even in view for them to do a Grammarly for LO (nor for Linux). It was last year (I mean end 2018) AND again 3-4 months ago, but their email were very specific.
They answered me a nice email, with a nice way to say no, and will transfer my request to the development team like they said also last year…
So I use their website (it’s quite nice, but for sure I would like to have it in LO)
Thank you.
I tried it out after installing the extension and java needed on my windows computer, but it not as good as grammarly, it found the same mistakes the “Word” spell checker did. Grammarly helps write better with rewritten sentences and even an added a before a word. I will definitely use it, though, I don’t need Grammarly for all my work and I will feel confident, with language tool. Thanks.
As per the above. No, it’s not possible yet.
FYI, although it’s a useful app, it’s worth reading Grammarly’s privacy policy before using it. Your data (ie. documents, and emails/web activity if you use the outlook or chrome extension) is stored indefinitely on USA servers. They can share these with other 3rd parties in the case of mergers, sale of Grammarly stocks, or if Grammarly undergoes a reorganisation.
I am getting a new computer.
Since Grammarly has chosen not to make their API publicly available, there is no way for someone to write an extension for it. So it can only happen if they choose to develop something for LO.
I have used Grammarly to check LibreOffice documents by copying and pasting the text from Writer into Grammarly. Formatting cannot be copied, however, so you need to make changes carefully.
Or, use a different grammar checker. A search on such tools suggested https://languagetool.org/, which I tried just now. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to disable LightProof and enable LanguageTool, but it is working now.
Thank you.
