Yes, sure. I’m absolutely not familiar with Windows 8, but I think except for some UI changes etc it’s quite the same as Windows 7. I know some people who’re testing LibreOffice on a Windows 8 x64 bit system, so I think that’ll be an answer on your question.

LibreOffice 32-Bit runs nicely on Windows 64-Bit installations.
A pure port of LibreOffice to 64-Bit on Windows (64-Bit for Linux already exists for a long time) is in the planning: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61683
It is also suggested as an idea for a student in Google Summer of Code 2013.
Libre office does not offer a 64 bit version. You can only download x86 version for windows 8 version 4.0.1.2.
Correct me if I am wrong.

@bobc, Are you asking a separate question? I believe that the 32-bit version can run on a 64-bit build of Windows 8, but we should open a separate question if you have additional questions about that.
I am running LibreOffice 4.0 (which is 32-bit) on a Windows 7 64-bit system. I doubt there would be an issue with LibreOffice 4.0 on a Windows 8 64-bit system.
I’m running LibreOffice 4.01 on Windows 8 64 bit now (Samsung laptop OEM install). It runs but not well. Not sure if it’s autosave or what the problem is , but it frequeuntly freezes and stops responding four about 30 seconds, then resumes again. Sometimes it crashes and does the whole document recovery thing.
Windows 8 may seem to look a lot like Windows 7 when you disregard the metro screen, but under the hood it seems quite clunky. I was told it’d run faster than Win 7, which it does - when it’s not pausing everything to run something in the background. Frequently find the synaptic mouse pointer stops working for awhile etc… If you’ve got the choice, stay with Windows 7 if you want to use Libre Office.
I had freezing problem in LibreOffice on Windows XP. I have found out that my antivirus/firewall/defense system was blocking LibreOffice to work properly. So if you have this kind of system then try temporarily disable antivirus/firewall/defense system (disable network to not be exposed) and then try if this solves the problem. If yes, then you need to apply some exceptions to antivirus/firewall/defense system. If this does not solve the problem and you can recreate crash then report a bug.
I have just started using LO on a new Windows 8 64-bit PC. I have removed all the junk supplied with the machine and stopped just about everything not necessary. The only thing you CAN’T seem to do anything about is Microsoft’s Automatic Maintenance. Even if you delete the task, it is reinstated the next day. However you can see when it has run and so eliminate it from causing problems with LO.
I have had the following problems, with both Calc and Write:

Freezing temporarily, as described above. No other application does this (after 4 months use). The timing does not correlate with MS Auto Maintenance. Kaspersky Anti-Virus recognizes LO in its application list and so is unlikely to be interfering.

Freezing permanently and becoming unresponsive. Task Manager reveals several LO processes which have to be manually killed to recover from this.

Crashing and going round a recovery cycle, apparently successfully.
I was hoping to migrate to LO before releasing the PC to others in the household. But the above behaviour is unacceptable. The previous application was MSOffice XP 2002, which is very stable. I REALLY don’t want to have to buy a new MSOffice package, but the LO problems have to be fixed.
Just like I have written in comment to answer, I would stop antivirus/defense/firewall programs (anti-* programs) (unplug network cable to not be exposed to internet risks). Make sure that all of this anti-* programs are disabled and then try to run LibreOffice. You are having a symptoms of some anti-* program scanning your LibreOffice program = temporary freezes. When scanning is complete then anti-* program allows to continue to use the program.
(continue) I suggest to disable Kasperky anti-* programs and make sure that this program has REALLY exit with Task Manager (don’t know about Kaspersky, but some of this type of software just closes GUI part of the program, but it does not close down ‘server’ site non-GUI part of software). If freezing stops then try to search for newer version of Kaspersky (maybe there is an update for Windows 8). If not then you need to add some exception rule to the program to stop scanning LibreOffice.

It is running FINE as before using W8 now, not loading CPU. Issue came back, and noted that when I saved file CPU usage went down.
