Can not write "Ni" in the formula editor in Writer

I am writing about some of the elements using the formula editor in writer, but when I try to write “Ni” the editor will not accept that. I just get a question mark. As I really should write about nickel it is quite annoying. Can you help me?

Don’t know what Formula editor are you using? Are you using Insert | Object | Formula or Table | Formula? First one is to insert mathematical formulas as symbols, second is for adding LibreOffice Calc like formulas in Writer.

I guess you are using the first one… You can double quote any text that should appear like text, so: “Ni”

I suggest to download LibreOffice Math guide from: https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/ at the end of the document there is reference pages with examples. Very nice reference to start with.

If this does not solve your problem, then please provide more info.

  1. What is your LibreOffice version?
  2. What is your operating system name and version
  3. Exact step by step instructions what are you doing at the moment in LibreOffice
  4. Detailed info about what are you trying to accomplish.

Thanks!

The quote solved it!
