Can only create read-only files

I’ve been using LibreOffice for a while (my computer is running Windows 10), and recently I have found I am unable to edit or create any files with it - stuff I’ve worked with before are now read-only. I’ve even created copies of the files and those are read-only as well! I read somewhere that all files in Windows 10 default to read-only if the program you’re using for them isn’t the default program, and I went and checked to make sure that the file types I was trying to edit had LibreOffice as the default, and they do. I’m honestly lost here.

Isn’t a Base problem. Base is the database-connector from LO.

Where do you save the files you create new? Anywhere in the network or on your own computer in your own user directory?

I save them to a variety of different folders, most on my desktop. They’re not shared on the network at all.

Please tell us:
What kind of files do you mean, ODT, ODS, others.
Which LibreOffice Version do you use?
Do you use an antivirus program that monitors your files?
Can you please upload a sample file here so someone can examine it? Thanks.

Literally any file I try to open with LibreOffice: docx, csv, odt are three I’ve tried.

I use LibreOffice 7.2.

I also have AVG antivirus installed.

Disable this snake oil and see what happens.

You can perform the following test:
Turn off the antivirus program.
Possibly “restart” the computer.
Open Writer.
Write a short test document.
Save it in ODT format.
Open the test file and see if it is read-only.
Please share your report here. Thank you.

Fixed. Thanks.

You can keep AVG but add LibreOffice to the allowed apps, maybe you have already done this but if not:

Open AVG. Click Menu > Settings > Blocked and Allowed Apps then click on the button +Allow App, a new dialog will appear. You might be able to add LibreOffice to the list of allowed apps now.

Otherwise, add C:\Program Files\LibreOffice\program\soffice.bin. If it isn’t installed there then navigate to the correct folder and start writing in soffice.bin and the file should appear as a choice. Click Open
