Cannot drag Impress slide to new position using the slide thumbnails pane

Libre Office 24.8.5.2
Fedora 41 Linux
AMD Ryzen processor x86_64

In Impress, I can move the slide via “right mouse click” → Move → “Slide Up” (or “Slide Down” for instance).

However, I cannot move a slide by dragging it in the slides thumbnail pane to the desired position.

When attempting to perform the drag to the desired position, I see the red circle with the diagonal line through it (the international ‘forbidden’ icon).

This drag feature worked for decades in Impress.

I think this is a bug, and I will file a bug at bugs . documentfoundation . org unless someone tells me that this is a ‘feature’ done intentionally.

Thanks in advance,

It works for me: I can drag a slide between two another slides.

What platform are you on?

I’m running KDE on Fedora 41.

Win10Prof64bit, LO 25.2.1 portable, LO 24.8.5 portable

Well, I just installed version 25.2.1.2 and it seems to work now (dragging the slide thumbnail). I am starting it from the Application Launcher. I haven’t yet found version 25.2 in my PATH. I need to do that.

And I’m now going to make sure I properly uninstall version 24.8.5.2, which is in /usr/bin (which is sym linked to /usr/lib64/libreoffice/).

Unfortunately, I’m also getting this issue - sometimes I can drag slides up and down, but very often it doesn’t work (and it results in having selected multiple slides instead)
Here’s my info:

  • Version: 25.8.1.1 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
  • Build ID: 580(Build:1)
  • CPU threads: 12; OS: Linux 6.17; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
  • Locale: nl-BE (en_GB.UTF-8); UI: en-US
  • Ubuntu package version: 4:25.8.1~rc1-0ubuntu1
  • Calc: threaded

As a workaround you could use

  • menu View | Slide Sorter

Does this work better than the thumbnails pane?

Maybe a Linux issue. Would test later (on Linux). [Edit: See below.]

Works with:
Version: 25.8.2.2 (X86_64)
Build ID: d401f2107ccab8f924a8e2df40f573aab7605b6f
CPU threads: 12; OS: Windows 10 X86_64 (build 17763); UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: es-AR (es_AR); UI: en-US
Calc: CL threaded

EDIT:
Also works with:
Version: 25.2.7.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 5cbfd1ab6520636bb5f7b99185aa69bd7456825d
CPU threads: 12; OS: Windows 10 X86_64 (10.0 build 17763); UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: es-MX (es_AR); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

And it works with:
Version: 24.8.7.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 480(Build:2)
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 6.4; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
Locale: es-MX (en_US.UTF-8); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

I just checked again with a few old .odp Impress files I have. On LO 25.2.7.2 I can successfully drag and reposition slides using the “Slides” pane on the left side of the window.

@LeroyG mentioned that it works on 25.8 so I presume the bug was fixed for releases forward from 25.2.7.2. I probably should upgrade anyway; seems that I am behind.

@jurgenga, as a work around when I was experiencing the problem, I just selected the slides I wanted to move and then right-clicked on the selected slide(s) and selected “Move…”
