Cannot open database in form view

I’m new to LibreOffice & just installed vers 7.1.6.2. I’ve been using Microsoft Works because it has an easy to use database. It doesn’t work well with Windows 10 so I figured I’d try LO.

I used LO to open a MS Works database which has a .wdb file format and it opened. But I cannot find a way to access the Form View. I’ve searched & Googled and everything comes back on how to create a form, but nothing on how to access an existing database in the form view.

Apparently I’m missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Apparently I’m missing something.

No, you are not missing anything. WDB can be opened in LibreOffice as far as I know only the tables.
The structure for forms is too different, so it is necessary to create a corresponding form in Base.

Have a look at English documentation

You are right. If Base is linked to any database it will only show the tables. I would copy the tables to an internal database of LO Base and create new forms. There will be no possibility to get the forms of Works working in LO. Same is with Access …

After I create a corresponding form in Base you’re saying I can then copy the tables into it. Do the LO field names have to match the old Works field names?

Would I essentially be copying the List View data from Works into the List View of LO?

The fist step should be: Copy the content of Works tables to an internal LibreOffice database (HSQLDB). After you have saved the data in HSQLDB you could create forms for this internal database. When copying data you could also change the field names. The import wizard will be able to change the names, the fieldtype, length of the field …

You could also try to create forms for the Works database. But: I don’t know (and can’t test) if you are able to add new data to your Works database.
