Can't enlarge template - and it's taken over Writer!

Having a weird problem. I downloaded a resume template. When I opened it up to work on it, it is small and centered in the page. I can’t increase the size - the little ruler at the top does not go all the way across, but it small and centered.

I have tried to go from normal to web view, no help. I have tried to format the page, no. The print preview shows that it will print standard letter size, so it’s not that. It’s tickling in my brain that it should be simple to have the little ruler (and hence, the document) all the way across the screen, so I opened a new document to compare …and it’s the template!!

I must have made a mistake, so I try again. It’s the template. I close writer and re-open it …to the template! I can open old documents, but all new ones are the template. Please help!

As I see it, there are two problems.

Problem 1
The zoom setting is in the bottom right of the status bar; you can increase the view size there.

Problem 2
Select the menu File>Templates>Manage Templates
Choose the Button Manage and then Reset Default Text Document.

It may be an .ott document (Writer templates create Untitled.odt documents when instantiated), but it is probably a very badly designed one: the fact that the paragraph style menu shows Default Paragraph Style suggests it is completely direct formatted. Consequently, adapting contents to your personal case will be a nightmare. And I bet there is an abuse of tables and probably usage of manually positioned frames.

For such 1- or 2-page document with non-linear text flow layout, I’d rather recommend using DTP (desktop publishing) applications to make your life easier.

@NacBri: why have you tagged your question basic? Are you trying to solve the problem with a Basic macro?
