LibreOffice Writer 26.2.0.3 in Mint 22.3. In case it shows on your end, I’m writing this on my Windows desktop but the problem is in the Mint laptop.
First, the context. The Writer Help/LibreOffice Help menu says that the (English (USA)) help is not installed, but provides a Learn More link. That link takes you to the LibreOffice On-line Help which shows a download link.
I have now tried both the (rpm), (deb) AND the “Installing from Third-party Repositories” versions, all with the same result. What am I doing wrong?
Back to the main problem. The download page has a "Help for offline use) link which downloads a (…tar.gz) file. Extracting that file produces a (…en-US) subdirectory with its own /RPMS subdirectory, which contains a (…rpm) file. So far, so good.
The instructions then say to open the Linux terminal to navigate to the directory that contains the .rpm file (that is /RPMS), and to enter this command: sudo rpm -i lobobasis7.6-en-US-help-7.6.4.1-1.x86_64.rpm. Naturally I copy-pasted to preclude typos. But there are two problems.
First, the terminal tells me that the RPMS subdirectory does not exist, despite being visible in the file manager. And second, even using the command in the parent directory (…en-US) produces the message that the command can’t be found.
So, thinking that Mint just doesn’t contain an rpm command, I tried again, downloading the deb version, but the result was the same.
Then, when that didn’t work either. I tried the Other Repositories version, which seemed to go through a rigmarole, but Writer still says that the thing has not been installed. Back to square one.
The instructions also say to Restart the computer, which I have done.
What do I do next?
