Can't make headers work on different doc pages

I created a legal pleading called probate pleadings. It has several subdocuments. I made it that way so I could use the custom properties on all the subdocuments. The first subdocument is the petition. The second is the notice. The next ones are several waivers.

The first page of every subdocument has a header with case style including the parties and the case number. The second pages on the subdocuments don’t have the header. Up to now all the subdocuments after the petition were a single page.

I used the document for some time with no problem. Recently I needed to make the waivers more than one page. When I did it put the header on the second page of the waivers. I tried several things using page styles to fix it including making new first page page styles that only turns the header on for the first page.

Sometimes it works on the first waiver, but there’s no header on subsequent waivers. When I try to change it on the second waiver it takes the header off the first waiver.

Please favor me with suggestions.

Thanks, Paul

OS name, exact LO version and save format.

It is next to impossible to diagnose without a sample file.

I use Windows 11. LO Vers. 7.6.0.3. I’m not sure what you mean by save format. Should I upload the doc I’m working on?

Do you save as native LibreOffice document .ods or are you saving in some foreign format such as MS Office .docx?

Please, but of course make sure there is no confidential information included.

Native LO.

Rather than using the tick box for different first page, you might find that using page styles is more consistent.
You can create a page style with a header, e.g. My First Page, and then create another page style that is exactly the same except without a header, My Page. In the first page style, My First Page, in the General tab (Organiser tab for version 7.6) set My Page as the next page style.

I really appreciate your help. That’s kinda what I have been doing. I works pretty good on the first waiver. But when I go the second waiver and subsequent waivers and put the first page page style on it it won’t let me create a header. Sometimes it erases the header in the first waiver. It’s all very mysterious.

Something along these lines for PM2 and new page style PM2-2

Your fix seems to work perfectly. I turned on the header on PM2-2, set it to first page only, then changed the organizer to make PM2 the next page. I applied it to all the waivers and it worked perfectly. I’m sure I was doing something similar. I’m very confused why it didn’t work for me. Did you do anything special when you created PM2-2?

I tried doing this on the file I’m working on that I created from the form I sent you. It’s still not working. Oh well. I’ll keep plugging away. Maybe it’s something you did when you created PM2-2?

In page style PM2, in the Organiser tab, I set PM2-2 as the next page style. I then had to click on the second page and double click PM2-2 page style to apply it to that and subsequent pages.

I’m still working on this. Here’s my last attempt. I started with a page style named probate pleading with the header turned off. Then I added a page style named probate pleading first page with the header turned on and the same content on first page turned off. It works until I get to the second waiver. When I try to assign the probate pleading first page style to it the style jumps back to the probate pleading page style and the header doesn’t come on. I appreciate your help.
