Hi, I am wondering if anyone has similar problems in the latest LO.
I am using Microsoft OneNote (Desktop) on my Windows11 PC, and sometimes I attach odx document files (e.g. Impress presentations) in a note page in OneNote.
With older version of LO, I could open quickly those attached files by double-clicking the file icons on the note page. However, since LO 25.2, it takes more than a minute to open them. Moreover, with the latest LO 25.8, it won’t open forever. In the case of LO 25.8, immediately after killing the OneNote process by Windows Task Manager, then LO 25.8 opens the files.
Please let me know if any of you has similar problems and if there would be any solutions or workarounds.
Maybe look at OneNote questions, e.g. these from Microsoft
Although I’m not sure where the root cause resides (LO or OneNote), it has worked perfectly with earlier versions of LO, and LO25.2 showed a new issue (very slow file opening process), then with LO 25.8, odx files attached in the OneNote will never open and it is unusable, as I mentioned in my original post. So, I guess something in newer LO versions is somewhat incompatible with OneNote, and I hope to see any advices or suggestions.
Hi, Hrbrgr,
Thank you for your suggestion. It seems to me that suggestions @EarnestAI gave me are related to the issue where OneNote doesn’t open a note page properly. My issue is different. LibreOffice does not open properly when I double clicked an odx document file icon attached in a note page of OneNote. But, I might be wrong and misunderstand your suggestions. If so, forgive me my misunderstanding and please give me advices.
Fist step to debug would be to try with an older version. Portable version or parallel install of older versions is possible.
.
If this still works, file a bug as regression, so developers may find out more. If it is not working the cause may be something changed in Windows or OneNote itself. It is obvious, there is some lock by Onenote, as you observe
As suggested by all of you, I tested again with LO older versions and newer versions to see how differently they behave. Here is the process.
(1) I created three document files for testing, TestOnCalc.ods, TestOnImpress.odp, and TestOnWriter.odt, by using LO 25.2.5, and saved them on Windows Desktop.
BTW, my Windows 11 is Japanese version.
(2) For each version on LO, I did:
Confirm the version of LO can open those files from Windows Desktop
Attach those files to OneNote
Try to open those files in OneNote by double-clicking those file icons, and measure how long it takes until those files are opened by LO.
Here is the result.
a) With LO 24.8.7.2 (older ver), all files attached to OneNote were opened in 10 seconds.
b) With LO 25.2.5 (current stable ver), all files attached to OneNote took 120 seconds until opened.
c) With LO 25.8.1.1 (newest ver), all files attached to OneNote took 120 seconds until opened
I apologize that I mentioned yesterday LO 25.8 takes forever for opening a file, but I was wrong. Both 25.2.5 and 25.8.1.1 take exactly 120 sec for opening a file, while older version 24.8.7.2 takes just 10 sec, which looks quite normal. Please note that all tests above are done today on the same Windows 11 and OneNote.
So, I think some changes between LO 24.8 and 25.2.5 might affect those different behavior.
What would be the best next action? Should I report to LO developer team?
Thanks
I’d think this should be reported as a bug, so should be submitted directly to Bugzilla:

Thank you for your help.
I will try to log-in and take a look into it.
