I have both old and newly made Base files in Linux Mint 11 which I have been able to open and use but this week I can’t open any of them, nor can I create a new data base file.
Why? What happens? Won’t the file load / save / create? Does LO crash? What about LO writer and odt files? Do they work?
What happens if you run libreoffice --base
in a terminal? If there is any output, please post it here.
Also please go to about > help and copy paste your version info with the copy button (or at least, type libreoffice --version
into your terminal and provide the output).
So it worked before? What did you do before it broke? Maybe a system or libreoffice update?
The Select database screen appears but can’t open odb files.
Hi again,
Just found that Base was opening previously made odb files and also a file to add fields and data but not the share analysis.odb file. The files that it opens were very small and I didn’t notice them. Had to expand them and then could use them. I guess I shouldn’t have added data to the share analysis file when in windows. Now I suppose that I will have to use windows only to use that file.
I don’t suppose that there’s any way to use it when in Linux or to export the data to a new created data file made by Libreoffice Base.

Why not?
.
But first things first: Wich database? HSQLDB, FireBird etc?
And wich Versions of LO on Windows / Linux?
.
I remember a nasty version-problem with FireBird…
I have now found that Base in Linux did open odb files created in the past and a newly created file for editing. I noticed a white spot about about 15mm long and 3mm wide with a curved top near the upper left corner of my screen when I attempted opening the above. I had never seen this before and thought it may have been a warning mark. I thought it should have a message in it but clicking on it did nothing. Then I decided to try enlarging this white spot by dragging one border. This resulted in the full page being displayed containing the data. Thus when I opened these odb files they were being displayed in a very minimal way. Now if I close these and click to open those files they are displayed in full view.
The database is HSQLDB.
I can now also open the data base that I created recently, the one that I was sharing with my Windows 10 OS. I had thought that entering extra data in it when in Windows had caused the problem.
So, problem solved.
Thank you for your responses and advice. Don’t know why the files were displayed in this minimal way. Never had that happen before.

Can’t help with a reason, but I have seen some similiar reports over time…
