Changing default save format to .doc on a Mac

Hi,
My first post so don’t even know which tag to select
I do not have OPTIONS in the TOOLS pull down menu so how can I change the file extension to .doc on a Mac. Currently I have unticked the automatic saved file extension and my files are saving in .docx so I would like help on how to solve the mystery of the invisible OPTIONS option.
I am using LibreOffice 26.5.2 on Mac osTahoe
I also cannot operate line spacing…just doesn’t work
baffling stuff!
Thank you

Under MacOS, Tools → Options is sent to the Preferences menu to conform with Mac look & feel.

PS:: ther is no 26.5.2 LO release. Perhaps you mean 26.2.5.2?

For Mac you must use the Mac Menu LibreOffice > Options
To save as *.doc you must save as File Type: Word 97-2003 (.doc)
And if you want to use that format as defaults

Thanks for your reply.
I’m afraid I don’t understand and need instructions spelled out.
I’ve used search to find Tools and Options and nothing comes up. I’ve looked in LO Preferences and tried load/save, but there’s nothing about file/save there

You’re right…it is 26.2.5.2 version

Thank you for the screenshot…. really helpful. Took a bit of finding because I’m not savvy… but got it now! :raised_hands:t3:

A word of caution, .doc format is obsolete, more like to corrupt and less able to be recovered if it does get corrupted compared to .odt or .docx. It also does not support all the formatting available in LibreOffice.
.
You are best advised to save in native .odt format and do File - Save a Copy as .doc to send to someone else if that is the only format they can read.

Thank you, I will take that advice

For better understanding by later readers I changed the title of the thread
from “Changing file extension to .doc on a Mac”
to “Changing default save format to .doc on a Mac”.
