Close huge document => Writer crashes

Hi there,

I’ve a “huge” document with around 200 MB and some hundred pages written text and also some pictures.

With version before 25.8 there was no issue but since my upgrade LibreOffices / Writer crashes if I close my huge document. All my smaller files has no issue.

I thought if I wait for another update issue might be solved - but my crash-issue is not solved with version 25.8.4.2

Version: 25.8.4.2 (X86_64)
Build ID: 290daaa01b999472f0c7a3890eb6a550fd74c6df
CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.8; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3

A crash while saving is usually a symptom in document structural issue. As soon as a long-term maintained document is over 5 pages, full styling is mandatory. Direct formatting is your worst foe, though it is tempting because common belief pretends it is “intuitive”.

You may also meet problems with your pictures. They can contribute to the size of the document if they are not externally prepared for publication (i.e. cropped, rotated, scaled with final dpi) outside Writer so that they are used “as is” without any image editing in Writer.

The second problem with images is their positioning. Once again, in long documents, frame styles are mandatory. Unfortunately, frame styles are extremely difficult to master, but they are a key factor in success.

Tell us more about your formatting. Do you consistently use character, page and list styles (assuming you already use paragraph styles)? Have you already experimented with frame styles? If possible, attach a 1- or 2-page sample representative of your formatting.

I have already produced 400-500 page illustrated documents without problems, but there is a preparatory planning stage.
