closing a changed document does not close after changes saved.

hi,

I’m using 6.0.7.3 and I’m having this problem:

when I try to close a document (writer, calc) with unsaved changes, LO asks me to save these changes. ok.
normally (like with notepad) I expect that after saving the document the application ‘remembers’ that I wanted to close the document and closes it.
but LO keeps the document still open (but saved, no pending changes). a second close closes the document without asking to save again.

how do achieve the ‘normal’ behavior (again) to close the document after saving the changes ?

TIA

Marc

What is “normal” in one software application might be quite abnormal in another. Would you expect a Volvo to behave exactly like a Cadillac? Or a Sony like a Samsung? If they all behaved the same, there would be no point in having more than one brand of anything.

You are right: whats normal?
Could you name an application that behaves the same like LO on closing unsaved changed documents?

Not off the top of my head, but is it really relevant whether an application behaves like LO in that way? The point is that many apps are different in many subtle and not-so-subtle ways. So it takes an extra click or two to close LO – Be glad that it reminded you to save your changes. I have used a number of programs that would close without saving. Work lost!

my question is: WHY does LO behave like this ? asking to saved unsaved changes is great (and should happen with every app). but why should LO ‘forget’ about the fact, that I wanted to close the document ? save it (if I decide to) and close it. that’s it. why should the document stay open after saving the changes ? why should I change m mind to really close it ? is it really a feature-request ?

I don’t know, Marc, you would have to ask the developers.

But instead of closing without saving first and then having to go through all those annoying extra steps, have you tried just clicking on Save (one click) then clicking on Close (one click)? (That’s what I usually do. It’s a habit.)
