Complex Text Layout enabled by default?

I thought CTL is enabled by default?

This is to make it easier for new Linux users speaking Bidi languages to switch text direction without having to dive into settings.

Do you ask us if it’s true that you thought so? Or do you see something that you don’t expect? What specifically do you derive from that misguided article? The message of the commit itself says clearly:

All this does is enable some UI elements, like setting paragraph
direction or selecting “CTL” fonts.

Isn’t setting paragraph direction available for you even without CTL checked in Options|Language Settings|Languages?

Note also, that whenever one has a CTL locale set up (usually set from system settings), CTL is enabled, with more controls visible, without any user intervention.

Here’s what I see on my system without CTL enabled:

For comparison, this is how it looked prior to that change (screenshot from v.5.0):

No. There are options to change alignment, but no options to change direction. Here’s a screenshot of Libreoffice 7.4.2.3 Ubuntu 22.10:

How can I set up a CTL locale to test this?

But this is a screenshot of a different dialog, not of paragraph properties. It doesn’t show the control in question.

In your OS, set up your locale to an Arabic country.
