Retrieve lost Libre documents
There are probably not lost, just unseen. You didn’t tell us which Operating System you use. If it is Windows, use your Windows file manager to look in your Documents folder. Double click on each of the “lost” documents to open it, then it will appear in your LibreOffice list of recent files. Close each file after opening it, otherwise you might lose it again.
hello @BillyBoy1,
hope your issue is solved, if not and for others:
- absolutely careful if data loss is on the table,
- value of data dictates strategy,
- valuable data - no action on the system, ask experts, isolate disks, binary backup, then try recovery,
- less valuable data, try yourself, mileage will vary with skills and knowledge,
- normally LO stores ‘auto recovery information’ every once and a while, set in tools - options - save/load, those are powerful and do a recovery to a recent state in work on start of LO,
- additional you have a setting ‘always create a backup copy’, check if set, if set check path for backups and look what’s there,
- also win and other OS or utilities sometimes create copies, temporary files, ‘volume shadow copies’ and stuff like that, sometimes hard to understand / hard to find, local-temp folders and similar (you’ll never be sure to have your computer cleaned from private data until you wipe the entire harddisk with special utilities, on ssd’s also that’s 'not ‘safe’,
- i once broke an usb stick (use plug-n-stay’s since then) and occasionally found - nearly - all my data
month later on the disk … - once i was in urgent need of a file which some way vanished, a search for any file with appr. date across all disks brought it back,
- no backup - no mercy, people either have! a valid backup strategy or will implement after the crash … crash will come, murphy,
- personally i’m not! a fan to store all my secrets in ‘clouds’ where i have no control about access by others, plenty other people like them very well,
- good luck …
b.
