Conditional Formatting overrides Allignment options

Hi, first post.

So on Calc, I have all my figures centered and alligned in the middle position. But in the cells which have conditional formatting, it forces the numbers to the bottom. Even manually trying to correct that doesn’t work - why does this happen and how to prevent it?

Without the file, any suggestions are just speculation.

My God, I don’t know which “style” relates to which conditonal formatting, it just says, 34, 35, 36… ?

Wouldn’t it be better if cond format just followed the rules already established by the sheet in the first place? I don’t recal this problem occuring in Excel.

NO it would not!
just remove any CF and delete any automatic StyleName which start with »ConditionalStyle_«

After all you may recreate your CFs from scratch, with »sensible« Names for the given Style!

It would be better - of course it would.

Unless I have told it to do something like justify text to the bottom of the cell, it shoudl not - it should only do what it is told. In my entire sheet, the cells justfy centre and middle, so just because it has conditional formatting to change colour based on a pos or neg number, why would that be GOOD that it also forces itself to the bottom of the cell?

That makes ZERO logical sense.

Even crappy Excel doesn’t do that.

If I highlight the columns and command it to go middle and centre, it still won’t do it in Libre but in Excel it would.

So why doesn’t libre office?

This is a BUG that needs fixing. Obviously.

I don’t need to name my CFs as there are so few of them, it’s a relatively simple sheet. Naming them would be more time consuming and cumbersome and is unnecessary.

but WHY does this »simple« sheet contain 30+ »ConditionalStyle_x« and WHY dont you know which of them are in use?

I don’t know why they are so many, I’ver never counted them - hangovers from Excel probably?

But let’s face it - if Libre wasn’t ADDING this unecessary action of forcing all my numbers to the bottom of the cell… none of this converstion would even be necessary either.

Try

• Create your own custom “style” by setting up an unused cell with all desired formatting. (borders, alignment, color, font, etc…)
• With the cell selected, choose the Styles menu and select “New style from selection”.
• Give the style a relevant new name, or replace a previously named Style. Caution! If the previously named Style has been assigned to other cells, it will change those cells formatting! Now assign the new style in the conditional format dialog for those cells that should use it.

I mean look at this - this is ridiculous! I don’t think even Excel used to do this. And it would certainly correct itself if I manually chose all cells and aligned them correctly.

But in Libre Office, whatever settings are in the conditional formatting (that I didn’t even choose) THAT overrides the main sheet’s alignment!

That’s how conditional formatting works at the cell level. If you want the cells to follow the sheet’s column and row formatting, then delete the conditional format: Format>Conditional>Manage> select the format which lists the range of affected cells… then edit or remove it!
