Conflicting styles with headings and hyperlinks

I am trying to make a heading that is also a hyperlink, but doing so applies all of the hyperlink’s formatting to the heading, including the smaller font size and lack of bolding. While I could manually re-adjust them, I’d still like to know if there a way to make hyperlinks automatically inherit the font size and bolding of the text before it was a hyperlink? The “Inherit from:” dropdown in the style menu doesn’t seem to help, as “Source text” and “User Entry” seems to be styles themselves.

There is some confusion in your question: heading, header !

A heading is the “title” of a subdivision of your document, such as a chapter titlen sub-chapter, … Such a heading is usually intended to be captured in a table of contents (TOC).

A header is some text repeated at top of every page. This text is the same on all pages of a “sequence” and is not necessarily related to the current heading.

Tell us more about your usage of the “hyperlink” on your heading. Headings can be easily cross-referenced without the need to do something special on them, provided you have applied the “correct” style. Within the TOC, Writer inserts automatically a “link” to the entry; once agan no special action required.

Update your question by reopening it and editing it. Don’t forget to mention OS name, exact LO version and save format.

I’m not sure what exactly the save format is, though I’ve edited the original post to include OS and LO version from the “About LibreOffice” menu. As for the exact usage of hyperlinks, I’m using them to link the headers to external websites, not anything internal.

.odt or .docx (the latter is M$ Word format).

Once again, are you sure to mean header, i.e. a line at top of every page?

Do you want to launch you web browser when you Ctl-click on the link? Can you attach a small sample file?

Apologies, I meant heading. I do want to launch my web browser when I ctrl+click on a the hyperlink-heading. It seems the problem I found with the hyperlink style’s font size overriding the heading’s font size was due to me specifying the font size in the hyperlink style, when it’s unspecified by default.

This post is rather old and wording in LO dialogs has evolved since then. The button is now labelled Reset to Parent.
