Connecting to Google Drive

It looks like the LibreOffice guide on this may be outdated. When I try to remote file to Google Drive, it just has me put in a username, and then it routes me to Google’s login page. I login, then I get a localhost connection error: ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED, but LibreOffice opens up the remote files GUI…which then just shows a “Root” folder with nothing in it. Totally blank.

What’s going on here? I check the forum for other things but can’t see any updates newer than 2 years. I’ve been tearing my hair out with solutions that don’t work (rclone can’t auto-export gdrive formats to office, apparently, and insync broke almost immediately).

I’d love some ideas on what services to use that let me open and modify gdrive files in LibreOffice and have them sync back to gdrive automatically, or on how to make LibreOffice work. AI can’t even help me because all the documentation online on this issue is outdated.

You might like to look at this extension, gDriveOOo » Libreoffice Extensions, and its associated extension OAuth2OOo following the instructions on its homepage.
I am not interested in using Google Drive so will not test it.
I find OAuth2 difficult in other programs
.
Note that some more work was implemented, for Windows only, in ReleaseNotes/26.2 - The Document Foundation Wiki

It is broken, and has been for some time.
