Convert to pdf Mac = big file vs Windows = small file

Hi: Any idea of why the pdf files are so large when doing it in a Mac? T
oday I made a file with photos in Writer, original size 19.5 MB.
Converted to pdf in Windows = 742 Kb, converted to pdf on MacOs 29 MB.

I do most of my work on MAcOS, but to make small files in pdf from LibreOffice, I have to use Windows.

PDF export file size is a result of what has been set in PDF Export settings.

  • Click File > Export As > Export as PDF
  • In the General tab, under Images there are three settings
    1. Lossless compression. Use this if you have Inserted your images into Writer at final size, compression and colour depth. Or if you have only gif (or reduced depth png) or vector images.
    2. JPG compression, use this for photographs, don’t go below about 80% for Quality or you might start seeing compression artefacts
    3. Reduce image resolution to. This has the biggest effect on file size. There is not much point in going higher than 300 dpi as probably the printer can’t use the extra data. If you choose 150 dpi, the image file size will be 1/4 that of 300 dpi but photographs will not lose too much detail

Play around with those settings to see what results you get. It depends very much on the images themselves as to what will look best for the smallest file size.
