Copy and Paste Without Formatting on MacOS?

I frequently write documents where I must copy-and-paste information from other locations into Writer. I need to do this without formatting; that is, no color or font/spacing changes – to be consistent with what is in my current document. CTRL-SHIFT-V does not work.

Is there another way to accomplish this? It otherwise takes more work to re-format, etc.

Thanks.

Try Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V.

Since you’re under MacOS, Ctrl key must be replaced by the key or command key.

You can customise your toolbar to add an icon for paste as unformatted text. I do a lot of OCR and find it invaluable having that icon. Cheers, Al

Thank you everyone.

I wonder, is there any way to change the default behavior? For example, generally speaking when I copy-and-paste something, I just want the text – not the formatting. Wouldn’t it make sense to have extra keystrokes for getting the full format (color, etc) vs just the plain content.

Find an empty keyboard shortcut and assign Paste as unformatted text to that, Keyboard
Note the warning about trying to overwrite operating system shortcuts

In OfficeLibre for Mac there are at least two methods.

  • Menu path: Edit > Paste Special > Paste Unformatted Text
  • Keyboard Shortcut: Option+Shift+Command+V

If you find you have erroneous formatting on your sheet the fast way to clean most of it is:

  • Menu path: Formatting > Clear Direct Formatting
  • Keyboard Shortcut: Control+M
