Hi,
Using Writer 26.2 is an amazing experience. The most pleasant surprise is
the clean and settled way of working when editing Master Documents.
the past
I’m not sure of anything about the past, but I know that the Master Document functionality was confuse, cause once you created a MD from a document by going (with an open document, say, Untitled) File / Send / Create Master Document,
although it would be based on the same template which the originally open text document (Untitled) was based on, when you updated the template, and reopened the MD after closing it, you wouldn’t be prompted “to UPDATE the document because the template has changed”.
BUt now it works beautifully!!
I remember arguing with Ajlittoz 
He would (you would) say that it worked, but my conclusion was that it didn’t, and that I would use the Master Document as the “Master Template” – so to speak.
Meaning, that once I want to change any style, I would do it in the Master Document.
Perhaps it was supposed to work, and perhaps it did actually work (for some people), but it didn’t work for me, and instead of experimenting I concluded I wouldn’t trust Libreoffice in that, meaning that I would use a workaround (using the MD as the “master template”, too).
forget the past, version 26 is amazing!
Unlike before, on several occasions with several versions of Libreoffice Writer,
this time around I only checked it and it worked straight away.
It took me but a minute
Anyone can try it:
- Open a document based on a template
- go: File / Send / Create Master Document
- save your master document, and close it.
- change the template which you original simple document was based on
- reopen your master document (uncheck “current module only” at the bottom of “Recent Documents” list so you’ll see it in the list for sure)
- you will be prompted to update you master document to be in sync with the template!
This is SO BEAUTIFUL !!!
PS:
It is beautiful cause you may have – as Ajlittoz had argued – several Master Documents which you want to look the same, which means that you need them to update (to prompt you to update them) when you reopen them, if the template has changed in the mean time.
Now it works for sure!
