Creating a cover page in Writer with a full page image

Hi,

I’m trying to create a cover page that has a full-sized image with text over it. I’m trying to understand the proper way to do this. What I expected was to be able to take the image, anchor it to the page, make the content, and make the wrap go through or wrap in the background, and have the text appear over the image.

I’ve attached a sample file. If you try to click on the text to edit, the image options come up. I’ve no idea how to fix that other than cutting the image, modifying the text, and putting hte image back. Except that when I want to change the image, it becomes really annoying to get this look again.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You already handled the case properly: your cover page is styled First Page. This style automatically switches to Default Page Style when page breaks (either by contents overflow or the effect of a manual page break).

Instead of trying to anchor the image as a frame (with all the difficulties associated with frames), attach it as page background.

  1. open First Page style configuration by clicking on its name in the bottom status bar
  2. go to Area tab
  3. press <kbd<Image button
  4. import the image
  5. tune its layout in Options
It is likely that your preferred setting is Stretched.
  6. OK

I’d have modified your sample but I was to lazy to record your image as a file and import it back.

PS: due to subtle differences between platforms, always mention OS name, exact LO version (and save format, which is .odt in this question).

Thanks. I have two to do today, I’ll check back in when I’ve done it.
