Cross-referencing without changing text

I’m trying to create a document where I have the lyrics from an artist’s various songs typed out, and I want to have certain lyrics that reference another song liking back to the title of said song. Thing is, I can’t seem to create a cross reference without changing the inserted reference’s text. For example, I selected [song title] and set it as the reference, then navigated to [lyric] to insert that reference using 'reference text, as the other filters wouldn’t apply. I expected it to simply add an invisible link back to the title, as a hyperlink would. Instead, it replaces the lyric with the song title. Even when I tried changing the reference’s name from the title to the lyric, it will still change the lyric to the title. I’ve inferred from this that the text will change to the value, not the name, but that doesn’t help me. I also tried doing things in reverse (setting the lyric as the reference and the title as the insert), thinking I’d misunderstood the instructions, and it didn’t help.

What am I doing wrong here? Am I just dense and missing something really obvious?

You probably want a hyperlink in that case, it would be one way. Make sure that the Text field is filled in with the lyric selection, easiest if copied.

You might want to alter the Character style Internet Link to remove the underlining and maybe change the colour. You could also change the character style Visited Internet Link

I had a look at using hyperlink instead and then couldn’t figure that out either, so maybe this time it’ll work, now that I have some clearer instructions. Thanks!
