Perhaps this is a well known feature, but I recently figured out how to create a negative dictionary to flag my custom list of words for correction by spellcheck in LibreOffice Writer.
First the info: (relevant to LO v26.2.3.2)
When you create a custom dictionary in LibreOffice (Tools>Options>Languages and Locales>Writing Aids) it will create a new file in (~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/wordbook/). This is great since you can add words you want seen as spelled correctly by the spellcheck, and the files are simple text files.
But what if I want to modify an existing dictionary? In Canada we spell center as centre, and valor as valour. I could just use a British dictionary but Canadian English is closer to US English in a lot of ways meaning I would have the same problem only with different words. I needed a negative dictionary to replace words and not just add more. I couldn’t find a way to make one through the LO writer settings and despaired of having this function at all.
Yesterday I was working on my custom positive dictionary when I realized the flag on the third line from the top read “type : positive” Change this to “negative” and your dictionary will now work as a negative mask over all the other active dictionaries.
Honestly this is so simple, but I could find nothing online to point me towards the correct answer. Anyway, hope this helps out someone, I was very excited about this myself since I’ve wanted this function for a long time and google said LO couldn’t do it.
Cheers!
