Default fit-to-cell-size when inserting an image into a cell

It is taking two steps to insert an image: insert image, then right-click image > fit-to-cell-size. Is there a way set the second step as the default upon image insertion?

Also, how can I confirm that a particular image has been embedded in the spreadsheet file, rather than being a link ?

Menu Edit > Links to external files lists all contained links. If the item is disabled, there are no links. You can use this tool as well to break a link and thus embed an image that was linked.
