Default font change

How do I change the default font in LO 7.3? All the suggestions say go to tools>options >basic fonts but my menu shows only “fonts” not “basic” so there is no choice

Go to:
Tools → Options → LibreOffice Writer → Basic Fonts (Western)

Version: 7.3.0.3 (x86) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 0f246aa12d0eee4a0f7adcefbf7c878fc2238db3
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 22000; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: en-US (de_DE); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

Open a new document.
Get the stylist window.
Right-click paragraph style “Default” > Edit … and change the font.
menu:File>Templates>Save… give a name to the new template and check the “default template” option.
From now on, every new document is created from this template unless you pick another template.

Thank you Villeroy. This seems to have worked. Unlike reply from PKG which ignores the problem that “basic font” does not appear on the menu.

@pmb12061: have you noticed that @PKG references Tools>Options, LibreOffice Writer>Basic Fonts (Western), i.e. you need to expand LibreOffice Writer to see the Basic Fonts item? This item is not a primary one but a Writer subordinate because it does not apply to Calc, Impress or Draw.

PS: under MacOS, menu Tools>Options is named Preferences

I don’t understand why you can’t find the basic fonts under menu:Tools>Options>Writer. If you are using a Mac, you find that huge settings dialog with ⌘, (Command+Comma).

Nope using Windows 10. See screenshot

This is because you are in the “start center”. No document is presently active, in particular no Writer document. Open any Writer document. Now, you have access to the LibreOffice Writer sub-options.

Personalyy, I never use the “start center” because it barely fits anybody’s needs. I prefer to organise my own document directories and double-click on their icons to launch LO (and they open in the corresponding component). The “start center” is managed by LO according to its own criteria and it reorganises dynamically without user intervention, thus perhaps removing documents of interest from view.
