This post can be marked as solved. Libre office is up and running fine and all it took was going down through numerous numerous file endings and assigning them to libre office, vs word. thank you very much.
No. If you delete the .msi, this is all you “loose”.
.
But: If you have installed this file, you max need this file to uninstall.
If you have not installed from this file, there should be no problem.
?? If you have your files on the old laptop I assume you can copy the spreadsheets from there. If you have no clue, how to do this, you should perhaps let somebody woth more knowledge do the install and transfer…
Not very computer techy and have no idea what you mean by msi , just know that nothing is working well , unless I actually know I am looking for a certain receipe that I had in libre by name there is just nothing coming up in the icon file, libre was deleted in programs and microsoft office 365 is the pronblem, can’t edit a document or anything just not working and locked out to update my profile , giving up for today thank you
If you click Start menu - More - LibreOffice - Writer does LibreOffice Writer start?
If it doesn’t
- Click Start menu - Power - Restart (not power off as that defaults to hibernate) to clean random stuff in Windows
- Then try reinstalling LibreOffice. Make a note or a screenshot of any error dialogues that might pop up so you can share it here.
Check out General Installation Issues (Windows) - The Document Foundation Wiki - When you share the error messages also say what anti virus you are using.
thank you will try this and reply soon
I appreciate your help, however, thinking my technology or should say lack of it is not going to let me use this product ;[
So when I try to assign the files to libre it does it but it does not hold it , it goes right back to not even being done
You may have heard of (and it is the basic topic here): Most files have Names with extensions, separated by a dot, like Text.odt or stuff.ods
Your OS (Windows) is usually pre-configured by Microsoft to hide this extensions, so you have to rely on the icons. Pretty, but the icon does not show the extension itself, but the software/app called when you double-click the icon. .msi is the extension for typical Microsoft-install-files.
(I always switch extensions visible, so forgot you may never have seen this.)
There are several methods to do this described in the following link. I usually use the method to right click on a file and use “Open with”. Don’t forget to select the Checkbox next to “Always…”
Actually you can use “this product”. Just start LibreOffice itself and then use Open from File-Menu. The association of .odt or .ods to LibreOffice is additional convenience, to invoke Writer/Calc, if you double-click a files icon.
@jehantqs
When I got this message a few years ago, I turned off the “Perform check on startup” option and clicked “Cancel.”
It’s been working ever since.
This test has been available since version 7.0.
What anti virus does the computer use?

HELLO, Happy New Year and thank you very much. I went to the app set defaults for anything that said word to libre office and now everything is working, I can edit, etc. There surely was a very long list of extensions for Word . So, I thank you very much. Sonia
