Different Label Name ranges for different series in XY Scatter chart

Hi. So I am making a chart and want to label the X-Y coordinates of the points.

I simply cannot do it.

I can display the Y coordinate by using “Value as Number”, and for one series I can set the X values by setting the “Data Labels” range.

But I cannot set a different “Data Labels” range for the second series in the chart. If I set it for one, it is copied to all the other series in the chart.

I am sorry, but this is an absolutely ridiculous limitation. The way the “Data Ranges” dialogue is laid out it doesn’t seem like “Data Labels” should be global field for the chart, when it sits right below the other range you are setting.

It looks like I am going to have to go back and use a spreadsheet that supports this simple feature, Excel 2007, 19 years old, to make this simple chart.

Please upload an ODF type sample file here (filled with the data ranges).

OK I see whats going on there. Thanks for pointing out the work around, even though the link doesn’t really help

Still, its a clunky work around as there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to define different label ranges for different series.

Having it would improve interoperability with excel, as that is how I actually discovered this limitation. Opened up a spreadsheet originally authored in excel and the data labels were whack.

Write a feature request in Bugzilla or add your statement if one already exists.
