Is there an option for that?
Try to draw a square with a continuos line, and it becomes a roundish object (at least for me). Maybe I must buy a brand new hand. 
I am testing with versions 7.3.7.2 on Windows and 7.4.3.2 on Linux.

EDIT: The idea is to simulate handwriting, but it turn out in something unintelligible.
I am not a fan of the freeform line tool; it creates too many points. I prefer to draw a line, standard shape or polygon and add/edit points afterwards to create the shape I want. Maybe because I too need a new hand, I can’t draw freehand anyway.
