Disable Minus and Plus Symbols Calculating Cell Number

I am using LibreOffice 6.1.5.2 (x64) (A change made after that version makes all later versions of LibreOffice useless to me). In Calc if I try to enter just a plus sign or a minus sign in a cell Calc changes the cell contents to the symbol follower by a cell number. I have all cells set to text format and have disabled autocomplete and auto insert. How can I disable this behavior? I don’t want Calc to change what I enter in a cell.

Not with me (7.2.7.2). Can you share a file showing the issue? Edit your question for that. Thanks.

Would you share which change? Maybe there is a solution or workaround to it.

In this very special case (and for the strangeness of what’s reported} a screenshot showing a window (made just large enough) of the spook should be helpfuil.

See the screenshot in my reply to Lupp below. It may take a little while for me to create the screenshot and compose that reply.

The change is the removal of the ability to launch a Windows batch file from a hyperlink. This change was made for security reasons. I need the ability to do two things from a single hyperlink in order to use a few hundred CD-ROMs stored as ISO images on my hard drive. The two things that I need to do for each ISO are:

  1. Load that particular ISO image into a virtual CD drive
  2. Launch a manufacturer-specific executable that is used to view that manufacturer’s CD-ROM

This is very easy to do with a Windows batch file. I have not yet found a suitable workaround that can do those two things from a single hyperlink.

In the first shot I have just entered a minus sign in C7:

In the second shot I want to select another cell, and this is what happens to C8:

I just want “-” in C7. I want to prevent “C8” from being added to the “-”. The “-” is triggering something happening that I don’t want to have happen.

You clicked into cell C8 befor quitting edit mode for C7. I Can’t remember that this behavior ever was changed.

Everybody expects that a leading = entered into a cell will cause it to expect a formula. Formulas often start with a cell reference behind the leading =. Users like to create references by clicking into the respective cell instead of typing the address. … Same with using the arrow keys. …

For “historic reasons” also + and - are supposed to be intended to start the input of a formula.
Type your - and press Enter before you click into a different cell or moive the cell cursor otherwise.

Thank you. I must have known that some time ago, but is has been a long time since I used a spreadsheet to hold this type of information (20 years or so). A lot of folks create tables in Write for some of the things that I use Calc for. I find it quicker and easier to use Calc in text mode which already has a tabular format.

Note also tdf#131638, where the problem is that formula bar still enters the formula input mode after =/-/+, even when the cell is formatted as text.
