Disappearing macros, keyboard maps, autocorrect settings, default template

My Englist is not perfect. While I typeing to a document, deleted:

  • Macros what are not in the document
  • Keyboard shorcut mappings (macro call, formatting: setting paragraph styles), etc.
  • Autocorrect settings
  • Which template is the default

I observe this about weekly to monthly, at 24.8 so, I did not observe this some years ago, only nowadays. I do not know the cause: a keyboard shortcut, or automatically, the 4 things always disappears all at once. I am using this in Hungarian (for example, the menus are Hungarian, and the keyboard layout so). I simply observed Alt+R does not insert the sign ∈ to the document, but all shortcuts disappeared and some settings. I checked: there are no macros, no mappings to the keys, etc. I restored macros and mappings from file. All times this happened while typeing.

It might be anti-virus blocking “suspicious” activity. Have you added LibreOffice (soffice.bin) to the Allowed list of your anti virus?

Do you run a 3rd party system “cleaner” app?

Thank you. I am using only Defender, what is part of Windows, I did not modified its settings, so I did not add soffice.bin to the allowed list. I am not using any cleaner program, and a cleaner program cleans only when I started the program, and I instruct the the program to cleaning.

Please delete this: on other place, moved to here, but must remain on the other place.
This is a bug, and there is no solution here, so, please anybody delete this (I can not delete this: I see the trash, but I has no right), and I reopen this on the other place.

This still sounds like a security or permissions issue in the operating system.

Defender is named Windows Security in Windows 11.

At some stage Microsoft turned on Ransomware protection by default. If you click Windows Start menu > Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > manage ransomware protection, is Controlled folder access switched to On?

If it is,

  1. then click Allow an app through Controlled folder access.
  2. OK the security check
  3. click Add an allowed app > recently blocked apps
  4. click soffice.bin, OK

if you enter Safe Mode you see the same symptom of all your config (user profile) gone.
so, something similar, corruption of your user profile, has probably happened …

make sure you have backups.

This is a bug, and there is no solution here, so, please anybody delete this (I can not delete this: I see the trash, but I has no right), and I reopen this on the other place.

If LibreOffice entered Safe Mode automatically, without the user instructing it, this is an error. But I checked: at now, does not be in Safe Mode. By the way, Safe Mode requires closing and reopening, what does not happened.

  • I opened a document
  • I typed to the document
  • First, operated well, and at once, the 4 things are disappered. The document does not closed, and the LibreOffice does not closed: remained open: the disappearing is happened while typeing: both the document and Writer was opened, so disappered without closing and reopening: while operating! I did not logged this, but happens about weekly to monthly.

Currently it is a problem on your pc. If it is a bug, and where has still to be found. @fpy has tried to direct you in direction of the problem: The symptoms show LibreOffice seems to loose access to the user profile or the profile may reset externally.

You decription seems to imply you actually can store for example macros in the “my macros” part of the profile. If they can be found on disk, LibreOffice can write there - and I would assume then it is no problem connected to “controlled folder access”. If the macro never reaches the disk, then I would check controlled folder access.

If the macro and other settings are on disk, then the question arises when LibreOffice looses connection. After closing LO completely, on reboot, when updates are retrieved, every third friday etc.
EDIT: As I see you notice by loss of keyboard-shortcuts, this still leaves the question, if LO “lost” the profile on startup.

What I have noticed in the last months was problems in Win10 resulting in freezing desktop then a restart of explorer but I never had problems like loosing a profile. (I would see quickly, as I have my database-connections there).

No - it is better to keep this. If there is a bug in LibreOffice, we will see more complaints like yours and can reference this. So even an unresolved problem can still be useful.

PS: All I can recommend now is regular versioned backup of the profile in %APPDATA% to be able to restore it yourself.

PPS: As your version “24.8” is one year old, you may also check, if an update helps.
