Does anything within ODT file depend on LO version used?

I’m working in a project with other people.

With my 8-years-old MacBook Air (MacOs 10.14.6), LO 7.3.7.2 version, I cannot open a 1.2 Mb odt file created by a collegue of mine who has a more recent version of LO.

EDIT: I don’t get any error message, but LO gets stuck and the computer seems to be working indefinitely, and I have to force quit.

I’d like to exclude the possibility that the problem has to do with the file structure itself, i.e. how the xml it is coded. Can anyone confirm that there’s no change in this from a LO version to another?

When you say “cannot open”, what exactly happens when you try to open the file? Is there a warning or error message of some kind?

Thanks @robleyd. I don’t get any error message, but LO gets stuck and the computer seems to be working indefinitely, and I have to force quit. I’ve edited my question with this detail.

In LibreOffice Menü Tools > Options > Load/Save there is the section “Settings for default file format and ODF - ODF format version”.
In my case, “1.3 Advanced (recommended)” is set.
