Does template function just do the copy and paste?

Hello, what is the difference between

1 create a template then use template to create documents

2 create a document and copy, paste, rename, or Save As it each time

I wonder if there is a check, such as clearing personal data etc. when I create a template?

Thanks!

No, because others create templates, where all this is already filled according to their needs…
.
The main difference: When you open from a template the new file has no filename “Unnamed1” and you are not “endangered” to overwrite your template by using Save instead of SaveAs.
.
There is also the option to be notified, if the file you edit is based on a template wich was was changed in the meantime. Then you can allow to update. Can be useful in corporate settings…

It’s amazing, do you mean a document is still related to the template even after it is saved as a file? Then what if the template vanishes

What would you expect?

My parents died years ago. I’m still here…

PS: Sometimes useful:

I’m sorry. I don’t understand the template. The document has no connection to its parent(template) right? Then how do I update the template

The document knows the URL (mostly a local file path) of its template and looks for it “on open document”. If the date-time of this file is younger than the creation of the just opened document you get offered the option to update (not the own content of the current document, but the styles) regarding the changes. If the template no longer exists or was moved to an unknown path nothing is shown.
There are means to change the template, to disconnect from one …
But that’s a different level.

As already told: The informational connection is the URL.
When starting to work with a document, you aren’t prompted about updating the template, but about “synchronising” the current document’s styles (if going back to the original template, compared by name) with those contained in the meanwhile changed template.

Perhaps this example will help you to better understand the context:

If you copy only one document, with Save as, there is always a risk of corrupting or destroying the source document, e.g. if you make changes and save normally before Save as.
