Drag and drop results in hung program

OS: WIndows 11 with latest update
LO Version: 25.8.2.2 (also experience on 25.6)

When moving a selected phrase that had been formatted (say bold, Ubuntu font), to any location in a paragraph or bullet point (in the same slide), the program hangs. Result is a forced stoppage via Task manager. When office restarts, it asks to recover files that were open at the time the hung-episode happened.
Need Help!!!

Try this, click Tools > Options > LibreOffice > View and tick the box Force Skia software rendering. Allow LibreOffice to restart and see if the problem is resolved.

Hi Earnest,

Skia is enabled, so I did not “re-enable”. I replicated the drag & drop and LO still hung. Waited for about 3 hours, in case the issue gets resolved, but LO was still on “hung” mode.

I then installed it in portableapps platform. Skia enabled/forced. After replicating the d&d, above – I got the same hung result.

I also accessed another SSD with a clean (factory-reset) Windows 10 install, with updated OS. I installed LO, did the same d&d actions. I still got a hung result.

For now, I am surviving on free version of Office 365. I hope to resume LO usage soon, though…

Thanks!

D

Did you tick the box Force Skia software rendering? It is selectable only when Skia is enabled.

Hi Earnest,
Skia enabled. Image link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1m-rySiNiGFh_4juC2h88VxS8-jVPcBTt/view?usp=drive_link

Screen capture: AT ~16 second mark, I tried dragndrop of the highlighted text, LO hung from thereon.

Try in Safe Mode, click Help > Restart in Safe Safe Mode > Continue in Safe Mode and try the drag and drop again. If it works OK in Safe Mode then it could be a corruption in the user profile.

Back up your user profile first.

I prefer the manual method of resetting the user profile by closing LibreOffice, renaming the user profile to userYYYY-MM-DD, then restarting LibreOffice to build a new profile. After that, close LibreOffice again and copy most of the folders in the user folder back.

Hi Earnest AI,

I tried safe mode.

Same hung event when running LO on safe mode.

So, I went ahead with resetting the user profile manually and ran LO on both regular and safe mode. Same hung results on each mode.

I also fired up my win 10 drive, reset win OS to factory state, updated win 10 and drivers, then reinstalled latest LO, then checked for LO updates. I then restarted win 10, rechecked for WIn10 and LO updates once more.

After that, I ran LO on both safe mode and regular mode. Same hung results.

Am back to using LO on win 11. In the meantime, am coping by ridding myself of that drag&drop habit.

Sigh…

Life goes on…

Hi All,
Bugzilla notice: This issue appears to now be resolved in v26.x dev version.

My comment: I tried v.26.0.0. The bug seems to be gone, but this is a dev version (not even a pre-release), which has a host of other bugs, as well.

Am looking forward to v26.x stable.

Best,
D
