Drawing banners and different shaped text boxes in Writer

I cannot get writer to let make banner shaped, half circle, triangle text boxes. I can get shapes that are there to insert, but I cannot get them to become text boxes to write in, make one page banners and so forth. Help me please.

Probably you are looking for Insert Fontwork Text? It is part of the drawing tools.

I’d rather recommend using Draw to prepare your artistic material. In Draw, every shape is a “text box”. More exactly, any shape, be it a simple segment can be labelled.

Make your clip art in Draw, group everything and copy the group. Then padte this object into Writer. You can control positioning, wrap and many other settings with a right-click and Properties.

There are two ways

  • Use draw text (same as in Draw): Click on the shape and then press F2 to change to text edit mode. Then tip your text.

  • Use textbox (only in Writer); Right click the shape and from this context menu choose “Add text box”. If you have enabled Writer to show formatting marks, then you see light gray edges of the text box. Again, to switch to text edit mode press F2.

The most important difference is, that the text box allows richer content like Math formulas and images, but it cannot rotate together with the shape. Whereas the draw text rotates with the shape.
