Error compiling 5.2.1.2 " unknown external: glew. Stop."

Hi,
Tring to compile 5.2.1.2 on linux. Keep getting “libreoffice-5.2.1.2/canvas/Library_oglcanvas.mk:43: *** gb_LinkTarget_use_external: unknown external: glew. Stop.”
The build downloaded glew-1.12 but didn’t build it. If I use --with-system-glew and install libGlew-1.13 I still get the same error. Any Ideas?
